As part of the Competency-Based Framework initiated by RCSC, the first training on Veterinary Clinical SOPs, Patient Care and Animal Welfare of the Veterinary Officers was rolled out. The CBF for veterinary officers was developed in May 2021. Through this training program, the veterinarians will hone skills in the delivery of veterinary clinical services including surgical interventions and obstetrical and gynaecological interventions to further enhance efficient service delivery. The training program was mainly focused to build the proficiency and competency of the P4-P2 position level veterinarians in the field.
The training covered presentation and discussion of 17 Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) on various domains of veterinary clinical services; three Acts (i.e., Livestock Act of Bhutan 2001, Waste Prevention and Management Act of Bhutan, 2009, and Medicine Act of Kingdom of Bhutan 2003); one regulation (i.e., Livestock Rules and Regulations of Bhutan 2017); and three guidelines (Tshethar Guidelines, Antibiotic guidelines, and Antimicrobial guidelines). On the sideline, five thesis presentations were also done by 5 veterinary surgeons who have recently completed their master’s degree from countries like Canada, New Zealand and India.
The training is being facilitated by the Resource Person from the Department, National Veterinary Hospital, Motithang and National Center for Animal Health, Serbithang. It was attended by 21 veterinary officers from the Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital, Regional Livestock Development Centers and Thromde Veterinary Hospital at various position levels (P4-P2). The training was funded by RCSC which commenced from 5-8th May 2022 in Gelephu. The training closing session was graced by Dasho Dzongdag (Sarpang) and certificates were awarded for successful completion of the training program.
