A three-day training on Laboratoy Information Management System (LIMS) for the laboratory diagnosticians for the animal health laboratories of the central region is under way at Tashi Yoezerling Resort, Bumthang. The training is for three days from 26th to 28th of November 2020 and about 12 participants representing National Veterinary Laboratory, Regional Livestock Development Centre (RLDC), Wangdue & Zhemgang; Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital Bumthang, Punakha, Trongsa, Tsirang, Zhemgang and Dagana are attending the training. However, in compliance to COVID protocol, the participants from the COVID red zone like Sarpang, Gelegphu are not included in this training. The Main objectives of the training is to support animal health laboratories in use of electronic recording system of all the laboratory activities and use paperless system of result dissemination, generation of accurate AST data for guiding the veterinary clinicians for prescribing right antibiotics and there by promoting their prudent use. LIMS is the online database system designed to efficiently manage information of all the veterinary laboratory activities in the country. This system is intended for all the laboratory facilities under the Department of Livestock (DoL). It has features for online entry of sample details, test result, diagnosis and recommendation. The system helps the veterinary laboratories to track samples from submission to testing and reporting. This database will immensely reduce turn-around-time for diagnostic service delivery as a whole. The main feature of the LIMS on the Bacteriology part is recording of the Antibiotic profile of the important bacteria. Which helps in exporting for analysis in other programs like WHONET to analyse and build antibiogram of each bacteria against selected panel of antibiotics. In addition, the training of relevant officials will greatly support data generation and analysis for the forthcoming laboratory surveillance in chickens under the Fleming Fund Country grant.
